Check out Jaclyn Friedman’s piece on MRAs at the American Prospect

The Men’s Rights Movement inaction. Sorry, in action. Picture from Civilian Media. (Click on pic for link.)
Jaclyn Friedman, who faced off with A Voice for Men’s always charming Paul Elam for that 20/20 story that may eventually air sometime this century, has just published a great piece in the American Prospect on the Men’s Rights movement. Unlike some recent writers on the subject who’ve been taken in by some of the “movement’s” rhetoric and personalities — *cough*R. Tod Kelly at the Daily Beast*cough* — she fucking nails them. Check it out.
20/20 Story POSTPONED, again

The waiting is the hardest part
Just heard that the 20/20 story has been postponed. This may not be news to you all, but I’ve been away from the Internets for a bit. Anyway, I’ll let you know when it will run as soon as I know.
Program Note: ABC’s 20/20 story on the manosphere will run this Friday

A Voice for Men’s Paul Elam: Not ready for his closeup
It’s here at last! After numerous delays, the 20/20 story looking at the manosphere — and the part it plays in the online harassment of women — will be running on ABC this Friday, October 18, at 10 PM EST. Among the featured participants: the always charming Paul Elam of A Voice for Men; Anita Sarkeesian, the much-harassed feminist video game critic; and Jaclyn Friedman, the ass-kicking founder of Women, Action & the Media.
Here’s a teaser story on the ABC website which suggests that the 20/20 piece isn’t exactly going to be a triumphant moment in the history of the Men’s Rights Movement.
Naturally, the comments section over there is already filled with A Voice for Menners crying foul and spouting nonsense.
EDIT: And stop by here Friday to live chat during the show! (Well, live comment, anyway.)
Pledge Driven: Thanks for your support!

This was the worst gif I could find. You’re welcome!
I’m winding down the 2013 Man Boobz pledge drive, Part Deux today. It’s gone well. Big thanks to everyone who donated! And if you haven’t yet, here’s another chance:
Of course, you can feel free to donate at any time with that little button in the sidebar. The pledge drive is really just me nagging for a couple of days.
In any case, I appreciate all your donations, big and small. And all the ways you, my readers, contribute to this blog. Thanks again!
PS: Can any of you explain what’s happened to that poor mouse’s feet? I’m a little worried.
Man Boobz Pledge Drive: Begging Cat Edition

Meow meow pledge meow
Welcome to Part Two of the 2013 Man Boobz Pledge Drive! (There will be 3 in all.)
If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and sending a few bucks my way. Or, if you’d prefer, a massive quantity of bucks. You don’t need a PayPal account to donate; you can use a credit card, and there are other options as well. If you’re outside the US, PayPal should be able to handle your weird foreign money that doesn’t even have any US presidents on it.
I appreciate any and all contributions. That said, if you’re broke and can’t swing a contribution now, I completely understand. There are lots of ways to contribute to this blog besides cold hard cash — as anyone who’s checked out the comments here knows well.
Your donations — and other forms of support — have kept this blog going through some tough times. At the time of the last Pledge Drive, I was broke and, frankly, more than a little discouraged, and the outpouring of support from you all made an enormous difference to me. I’ve been a bit tardy — in many cases very tardy — in getting back to people individually with thanks, but I really do appreciate the help. Thanks as well to those who’ve donated since the last pledge drive, and extra special thanks to those who’ve made a point of donating on a regular basis.
I’m not quite as broke now, but I can still use whatever financial support you can give. Thanks again!
Man Boobz has now received some 11 million page views since its inception. Even more impressive: you all have posted more than 300,000 comments. Which is amazing to me. I couldn’t do it without you.
If you really want to get into the Pledge Drive spirit, here’s thirty minutes of a 1980 Pledge Drive from PBS’s Detroit affiliate WTVS:
The Man Boobz Survey is up! Go take it! [UPDATE: Survey closes Thursday at 8 PM, EST]

Survey says: Actually, none of these are options on the Man Boobz survey
Thanks to the hard work of Argenti Aertheri and the suggestions of various other Boobzers, the Man Boobz survey is now up and ready to be taken. It will give me — and all of you — a better picture of just what sort of people read Man Boobz on a regular basis. It’s completely anonymous. Go take it! It will only take a few minutes.
I will probably leave it up for a couple of days, and will report the results here as soon as the numbers are crunched.
I think pretty much any other question you might have about it will probably be answered on the survey itself, so hop to it!
Thanks Argenti!
I’m taking a break. So here’s a fantastic Bollywood dance number.
Hey, everyone. So I sat down to write something about this horrific discussion of domestic violence on The Spearhead – which some of the Man Boobz commentariat have already started discussing here – and, well, I just couldn’t do it.
I need to step back a bit from this blog for a little while to clear my head and maintain my sanity. So I’m going to take a bit of a break – maybe just a few days, maybe a week – and post nothing but interesting videos and other things having nothing whatsoever to do with misogyny or the manosphere. You all, of course, can treat this any any other thread as a totally open thread to discuss whatever you want, including the regular Man Boobz topics of misogyny and general MRA shitlordery.
I’m going to start off with the dance number that first got me hooked on Bollywood music some years ago. This is from the 1998 film Dil Se, a drama about love and terrorism. But in Bollywood, even serious dramas have dance numbers, and Dil Se’s dance numbers are gorgeous and a little surreal.
The music from the film is by A.R. Rahman, a prolific and popular Bollywood music director best known in the US for doing the music for Slumdog Millionaire.
And yes, that is Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan dancing on top of a moving train without any safety harness or stunt double or CGI trickery. (Well, there are a couple of brief bits where a double might have been used.) Enjoy!
Thanks for the support!

High five!
Just a quick note to let you all know that the response to the Man Boobz pledge drive has been amazing. I am once again humbled by the outpouring of support.
Thanks, everyone, for the donations! I appreciate each and every one of them, big or small. (Sorry I’m a little behind in sending out the personal thank yous; I’ve been sidelined a bit by migraine this week.)
Given how well it’s gone, I’m going to wind the pledge drive up a little early this time, and stop with the naggy reminders, because I know how annoying those can be.
Thanks again, everyone!
Oh, just one more naggy reminder, and that’s it!
Man Boobz Party Time President’s Day Pledge Drive!
If you aren’t too worn out by all the Presidents’ Day revelry — and the ritual Donning of the Fake Lincoln Beards — I would like to welcome you to the first edition of the 2013 Man Boobz Pledge Drive! (There will be 3 in all.)
I’ll try to keep this brief and repeat what I said last time: If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and sending a few bucks my way. Or, if you’d prefer, a massive quantity of bucks. You don’t need a PayPal account to donate; you can use a credit card, and I think there are other options as well.
There’s a bit more urgency to my request this time: I’m really and truly broke at the moment. Things should get better later in the year, but right now I could use all the help I can get.
I appreciate any and all contributions. And I’d also like to do a quick shout-out to the those who send me much needed $ between pledge drives, whether these are one-shot deals or regular infusions.
That said, if you’re also broke and can’t swing a contribution now, I completely understand. There are lots of ways to contribute to this blog besides cold hard cash, and lots of you contribute enormously every day with smart and funny comments and cartoons and silly parody MRA posters and so on and so on. Which is awesome. It’s the community here that keeps me going.
So thanks!
Oh, and if you need more persuading, here’s Tom Baker (no, really) begging for bucks during a PBS pledge drive.
My New Music Blog is Up!
Big announcement! My new music blog, If You’ll Be My Flotsam, is up!
It’s mainly a way for me to clear my head of MRAs, as necessary, but hopefully others will find it useful and entertaining.
Some of the music I’ll be featuring there will be vaguely reminiscent of the music videos I post here from time to time, but mostly it will be weirder. You’ll find a more detailed explanation on the blog itself, as well as my first substantive post.
EDITED TO ADD: I have been informed by my readers that the amazing picture I used for this post, which I had assumed was simply the greatest candid snapshot ever from the 1970s, in fact came from contemporary photographer Marianne Rothen, who knows how to work that murky yellow 70s glow. Check out her website and/or a larger version of the pic.
