Hey, it’s Thanksgiving!

At least for all us USians. I plan to spend the day eating things and not reading MRA blogs.

Here’s something we can all be thankful for: a baby panda playing with a soccer ball.

  1. Gratitude is the sign of noble souls. - Aesop

Here’s wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. Whether with family or far from it, with turkey and all the trimmings or letting the day pass uneventfully, here’s wishing you all innumerable reasons to be happy and to say “thank you.”

  2. Happy Thanksgiving and lots of gratitude for your awesome blog from the Pervocracy table.

  3. Thanks David for this most entertaining and diverting blog, as well as luring our daily trolls. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. As for the trolls, today it’s Meller who is need of human interaction beyond typing long dismal screeds somewhere on the Internet. Very sad.

  4. Happy Thanksgiving to all my USian friends here!!

  5. I’m thankful that I’m Canadian and therefore celebrated Thanksgiving in October, and I’m thankful that the Grey Cup is on this Sunday so that I can see my brothers at least once this month.

  6. “I’m thankful that I’m Canadian and therefore celebrated Thanksgiving in October”

    Lucky. :p

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone…now if you excuse me, I’m going to go off to enjoy some Mexican Chocolate Pie that I just made. Everyone at my house says that it’s delcious and unique. :)

  7. Happy Thanksgiving! I enjoyed a traditional meal today with my family. I would say that I am the most thankful this year than I’ve ever been.

  8. The Pervocracy (and Rowdy and Sprite and friends) Thanksgiving menu:
Maple-glazed turkey breast with can-shaped cranberry sauce
    Green bean casserole
    Rowdy’s super magic 800-ingredient stuffing
    Mashed potaters and gravy
    Apple and pumpkin pies
    Jello!
    Mulled cider

    nom nom nom nom nom

  9. “Maple-glazed turkey breast with can-shaped cranberry sauce”

    Maple…glazed?

    YUM!

  10. Our menu was:

    Deep fried turkey
    Mashed potatoes and gravy
    Homemade noodles
    Stuffing
    Green been casserole
    Deviled eggs
    Rolls
    Watergate salad
    Blackberry cobbler
    Pumpkin pie

It takes a lot of cooking and cleaning, but it’s totally worth it for such a delicious meal.

  11. Dare I ask about Watergate salad? (Everything sounds super yummy! Deviled eggs make everything fancy.)

  12. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I am the luckiest person alive, and y’all are part of what makes it so.

  13. Happy thanksgiving, guys. I think I’m going to make Kat A Kat curry (heart, kidneys, and brain-except I couldn’t find brain in my neighborhood) and watch Star Trek.

  14. Happy Thanksgiving y’all! I’m very thankful for this blog and all of you (even our trolls because what the fuck, it’s the holidays).

    The menu:

    Turkey & turkey gravy
    Mashed potatoes
    Butternut squash w/butter and cinnamon
    Herb and bacon cornbread stuffing
    Broccoli and cheese sauce
    Roasted sweet potatoes with sage
    Cranberry sauce from the can!
    Pumpkin pie
    Pecan Pie
Chocolate coffee gingerbread w/coffee whipped cream

I’m going to have a food coma now.

  15. Can-shaped cranberry sauce is the best kind, truly. It also goes nicely with ham. Happy turkey day down there (or, you know, up there if you live in Alaska) all you USians.

  16. I love the stuff from the can. If my cranberry sauce doesn’t have those ridges, I am not down with it.

  17. I’m not American, but Happy thanksgiving to everyone anyway.

  18. Happy Thanksgiving all! And thanks for being awesome. You guys brighten up my life, for real. :)

  19. Dare I ask about Watergate salad?

Lol, it does have a funny name, but it has nothing to do with Richard Nixon. It’s just whipped cream, coconut, pistachio pudding mix, pineapple, and nuts. We all laugh about the name, and try to come up with other political scandal inspired food names, like Teapot Dome scandal pudding or Sanborn Contract tea. I highly recommend you try the recipe, because it’s so easy and delicious.

  20. Men's Rights Activist Lieutenant

FYI, Futrelle has taken to censoring me again for some fucking reason.

  21. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it!

  22. Happy Thanksgiving USians and MRAL!

  23. I made a turducken ( smoked on the grill for 8 hours with apple wood added to the charcoal), green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, rutabaga, and a pumpkin pie.

My friend came over with her family and brought greens, candied yams, potato salad, cheese cake and sweet potato pie.

A good time was had by all.

  24. ¡Feliz dia de dar gracias!

  25. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone south of the border.

(so glad ours was last month!)

  26. I’m thankful that even though I got a terrible flu virus and had to stay at home in bed while everybody went to the cousin’s house for family dinner, I got some pie to eat at home alone!

  27. I’m thankful that I went to a Thanksgiving with several people I loved, but still couldn’t show that because not everyone there would have understood that we’re poly, and yet we still had a good time for 80% of it and pulled through okay.

I am also thankful I got compliments on the two pies I made for it because I was sure they’d be complete disasters.

  28. We had quite the spread at my aunt’s house:

Roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes with cheese, garlic and herbs, sausage stuffing, fruit and nut stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce, canned jellied cranberry, pear jello, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, glazed carrots, red cabbage, brussels sprouts, squash, gravy…and some kind of corn casserole that looked rather unfortunate. I didn’t have any of that. Oh, yeah, and pumpkin pie, banana cream pie and blueberry topped cheesecake.

I’m totally looking forward to having fruit and nut stuffing, red cabbage and scrambled eggs tomorrow morning. The best part is leftovers!

  29. Mollyren: “I’m thankful that I went to a Thanksgiving with several people I loved, but still couldn’t show that because not everyone there would have understood that we’re poly, and yet we still had a good time for 80% of it and pulled through okay.”

I’m sorry your thanksgiving couldn’t be open. But at least the pies turned out good for you!

  30. @zhinxy: We also got to play with these.

  31. Mollyren: OMFNGOD! WANT! WANT NOW!

  32. I’m not American, but I’m still thankful for that panda video! :)

  33. Naira and fiance’s menu:

Ceasar salad with from-scratch salad dressing and from-scratch focaccia croutons
Turkey cordon bleu stuffed with roasted poblano peppers, camembert, and ham
Stuffing made from the lion’s share of the focaccia I baked
    Green bean and mushroom casserole
Chiffon pumpkin pie with whipped cream (flavored with sherry and honey)

  34. First year hosting the holiday in my new place.

Thirty-seven people, total. Not including the babies.

Deep-fried turkey (fist bumps to other fried turkey lovers)
    Turkey gravy
    Cornbread dressing
Cornbread dressing with sausage and fennel
    Chipotle mac & cheese
    Traditional baked & cheese
    Basil Mashed Potatoes
    Honey glazed ham
    My mother’s “party” meat-balls
Roasted acorn squash with chili lime vinaigrette
    Rice and peas
    Green beans
    Collard Greens
    Salad
    Home made cranberry sauce
    Candied yams with pecans
    Sweet potato biscuits
    Coco Bread
Sweet potato pies (my grandma made them!)
    Pecan pie
    Red velvet cake
Pumpkin cake (decorated like a pumpkin, to boot!)
Cookies (I don’t even know who brought the cookies)
    Sangria
    Champagne Punch
Some other things I can’t even remember

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I’m going to spend today sitting… for a while.

  35. Dare I ask about Watergate salad?

I suspect that, as with Waldorf Salad (to which it has a slight resemblance) it was created at the Watergate Hotel, scene of the infamous break-in.

Molly: We are out to our families, so Thanksgiving didn’t suffer from that, and we can arrange our sleeping as we like.

As a point of order, that’s not a Gatling. It’a a belt-fed machine gun. I sort of want one.

  36. @pecunium: Yah, we’re trying to be more out, but it’s been a slog and a lot of our relationships are in flux. There will prolly be a blog post about it at some point. :P

  37. Great Post. Yes everyone Happy Thanksgiving 2011. Since everyone gave a bit of their menu, here I go. Turkey with awesome gravy sweet potatoes, veggie casserole, stuffing, mac and cheese and buttery creamy mashed potatoes. Dessert consisted of various fruit pies/cobblers, and good sweet potato and pumpkin pies. The pies were to be eaten warm with Breyers vanilla ice cream. It was good that the tryptophan did not make me tired this year. A Mens Rights Activist cannot afford to be tired the holiday season, too much work to do. You Know? LOL.
    .

  38. Pecunium & Molly - We’re out to our families, but… that’s why we had Thanksgiving dinner together and not with any of them. :(

(We’re not like disowned or anything, just explicitly not invited to show up to events together. Sigh.)

  39. “We’re out to our families, but… that’s why we had Thanksgiving dinner together and not with any of them. :(

Holly: Yeah, it’s really hard to navigate even when you’re out, isn’t it? : / But hey… it was still better than last year, cuz Nerf guns. And pie! And about 20 minutes when all the kinky people talked about going to an Ikea trade show where we’d find a piece we could really stretch out on and put it through all kinds of stress tests… :P

  40. I’m thankful that for you guys, and reading your delightful banter to distract me from grad school applications (lolsob). Anyway, Thanksgiving menu, because I pulled that shit OUT this year (note, I actually made about a third of this. The rest was divided between my mom and various other relatives):
Turkey with chestnut and mushroom stuffing
    Roasted green beans with mushrooms
Cauliflower with turkey bacon and pine nuts
    Mashed potatoes
    Home made turkey gravy
Home made cranberry sauce and applesauce
    Pumpkin bread
    Cheese bread
    Corn custard
    Sweet potato soufle
    Pumpkin pie
    Pecan pie
    Apple pie
    Chocolate chip pumpkin cake
