TV anchorwoman responds to a letter writer offended that she dares to be fat in public

By now you may have seen the pointed on-air response that Jennifer Livingston, a news anchor for WKTB in La Crosse Wisconsin, gave to a viewer who suggested that someone as fat as she is should not really be on TV, lest young girls get the idea that it’s ok to be fat.

Debate Night Open Thread

If anyone wants to talk about the debates, or anything else vaguely political, have at it here!

Also, I’m not exactly sure why someone wanted to make wax Romney and Obama heads, but I figured I’d put these up in case any of you were ever wondering what that would look like.

Why aren’t more women world leaders? Some Reddit dude has a theory. (SPOILER ALERT: It’s really dopey.)

NOTE: It’s the final day of the Man Boobz Pledge Week! It’s gone quite well. Once again, serious thanks to everyone who has donated! I appreciate it a great deal.

If you haven’t yet donated, and want to, here’s the button you’re looking for:

Men’s Rights activists spend more time discussing women than most women’s studies majors. Heck, they might even qualify for honorary degrees in women’s studies, if we expand the term “study” to mean “make shit up.”

Here a couple of dudes on the Men’s Rights subreddit offer their new but not-exactly-improved version of “difference feminism.”

Seems legit.

Why is the Secular Coalition for America giving Justin Vacula — online bully, A Voice for Men contributor — a leadership position? [UPDATE: He's resigned.]

NOTE: Just one more day of the Man Boobz Pledge Week! Big thanks to everyone who has donated!

If you haven’t yet, and want to, here’s the button you’re looking for:

UPDATE: Vacula has resigned.

As most of you are no doubt aware, the atheist and skeptic movements have had just a teensy bit of a problem with misogyny in their ranks. You may recall the unholy shitstorm that erupted last year when Rebecca Watson of Skepchick casually mentioned in a YouTube video that it might not be such a good idea for dudes to try to hit on women in elevators at 4 AM. The assholes of the internet still haven’t forgiven Watson for her assault on the sacred right of creepy dudes to creep women out 24 hours a day, every day.

Pledge Drive Update. And a gigantic helping of kitten!

Just a quick update on pledge week, the most important part of which is: THANKS! I’m impressed with your generosity, and grateful for the support. Every donation makes a difference.

If you haven’t yet donated, and want to, or you’ve already donated but suddenly decided that I need even more of your money, here’s the magic button:

Special commendation to the people of Australia for going above and beyond the call of duty. I had no idea I had so many readers down there. Good on ya!

Should dating advice be a boys-only club? One self-described Omega Virgin says “yes.”

NOTE: Man Boobz Pledge Week Continues! Big thanks to everyone who has donated!

If you haven’t yet, and want to, here’s the button you’re looking for:

The Men’s Rights blogger behind The Black Pill – formerly known as Omega Virgin Revolt – has made it his life’s mission to bring down the Pickup Artist movement, or at least the part of it that overlaps with the Men’s Rights movement online. Not because “Roissysphere gamers” are misogynist assholes who preach a mixture of manipulation and date-rapery to their readers. But because, in his estimation, these guys are promoting a “Misandrist Dating Advice Distraction (MDAD)” that convinces poor oppressed men that they can solve their problems by manipulating drunk hotties into sleeping with them – thus distracting them from the much more important goal of destroying feminism.

No, really.

A Voice for Men publishes a post by racist blogger Pamela Geller, whose Islamophobic writings helped to inspire Norwegian terrorist Anders Breivik [UPDATE]

Some of Pamela Geller’s other work.

UPDATE: AVFM has taken the post down.

Men’s Rights Activists have had a serious hate-on for the Southern Poverty Law Center ever since the hate-group-monitoring watchdog wrote about the misogyny in the Men’s Rights movement last spring.

Since the SPLC devotes its time to ferreting out bigots and exposing them to the world, this has put SPLC-hating MRAs in some interesting company. While not everyone who’s criticized the SPLC is a bigot – both Harper’s magazine and the Nation have been critical of the group and its fundraising methods – many of the most virulent critics of the SPLC are far-right racists. On Reddit, for example, the anti-SPLC subreddit, called simply SPLC, is dominated by white nationalists; indeed, at the moment, one of the top links on its front page is titled “Interest for White Student Union grows.”

US Army Brig. General charged with rape. Who’s to blame? According to The Spearhead, it’s women.

NOTE: Man Boobz Pledge Week Continues! Big giant thanks to everyone who has donated!

If you haven’t yet, and want to, here’s the button you’re looking for:

A Brigadier General in the US Army has been charged with rape. Well, actually, Brig. General Jeffrey Sinclair has been charged with a veritable laundry list of offenses, as set forth in an Army press release, among them

forcible sodomy, wrongful sexual conduct, attempted violation of an order, violations of regulations by wrongfully engaging in inappropriate relationships and misusing a government travel charge card, violating general orders by possessing alcohol and pornography while deployed, maltreatment of subordinates, filing fraudulent claims, engaging in conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman and engaging in conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline, or of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces.

While details are still sketchy, the charges apparently involve misconduct with several female subordinates.

And if anyone is so inclined right now, I’ll make it easy:

Man Boobz Pledge Drive, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo!

Operators are standing by. (Pic from The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee website. Click on the pic to see the full photoshoot.)

Welcome to the 2nd twice-annual Man Boobz Pledge Drive!

I’ll keep this brief: If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and sending a few bucks my way. Or, if you’d prefer, a massive quantity of bucks. You don’t need a PayPal account to donate; you can use a credit card, and I think there are other options as well.

Things are still a bit lean here at Man Boobz manor, so any donations you can spare will be enormously appreciated by me and the kitties, and (indirectly) by my landlord.

If you can’t afford it, I completely understand; so many of you already contribute enormously to Man Boobz with your awesomely hilarious and smart comments, and strange drawings, and links to videos of kittens, and the like. At the time of the last pledge drive, back in March, you all had left a little more than 125,000 comments here; the total has just now gone over 200,000. Which is amazing to me.

So, congratulations, and thanks.

If you really want to get into the proper Pledge Drive mindset, watch the clip below from a KCTS9 Seattle PBS Pledge Drive sometime in the 80s (presumably) in which a slightly addled Pledge Wrangler gets some of her facts about the station a little confused. Including what channel she’s on.

If you want to get into a slightly different state of mind, watch this video instead, from eccentric (and extremely indie) musician R. Stevie Moore. I think this is what ELO would have sounded like if all their songs had been recorded in a basement in New Jersey.

EDITED TO ADD: I found the kitty pic atop this post on the web, uncredited. But a reader points out it’s actually from a photoshoot from The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee, a website set up by foster cat parents which uses its adorable pictures of kittens to find homes for said kittens as well as to raise money for the Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society, from whence the kittens come. They’ve actually done a whole bunch of fundraising photoshoots over the years with new batches of kittens and an ever-more elaborate set. Check them out and maybe send them some $ too.
